Spectator Guide For The Minocqua Triathlon

Whether you're interested in watching the pros, cheering on a friend or just experiencing a triathlon, the Minocqua Triathlon offers a spectator-friendly course. All three legs of the race can be viewed within walking distance of the swim start, and there will be plenty of room for your family and friends at the event finish and Post Race Party.

THE SWIM
The swim takes place at Clear Lake Picnic Area with the start/finish located adjacent the beach. If you're planning to watch for a particular athlete, it's key to know their race #, cap color.

TRANSITION AREA
After exiting the swim, triathletes will follow the lakefront path to the transition area about 25 yards south of the swim exit. The transition area is fully fenced & easy to find with bikes racked together awaiting their riders.

THE BIKE
After the 1st transition, triathletes enter Hwy J and bike to Hwy E then a short distance on Hwy D near the Wisconsin River Boat Landing.  Athletes do one lap & return to transition.

TRANSITION 2
After completing the bike, athletes enter transition, rack their bikes, put on their running shoes & exit transition on the south end.

THE RUN
Athletes head towards the Raven Trail . After a challenging back woods trail run runners will enter Woodruff Rd. Then on to Fish Hatchery Rd & Hwy J bike lane. & back to the finish Line. You can easily see a runner twice on the course, on the way out & heading back.

10 Things to Make a Great Triathlon

To assure a safe and fun event for you & your fellow triathletes, please adhere to the following:

  1. Read the information on this web site in its entirety.
  2. Listen to the Course Talk carefully, and make sure to get answers to all your race-related questions.
  3. Arrive early! There will be long lines on race morning.
  4. Arrive at the transition area early!  If you get there late, you may be shut out & prevented from racing. Allow lots of time for parking, getting to the site and getting your bike into transition.
  5. Remember to bring along (2) water bottles already filled for the bike. There will be water stations on the bike course but arrive prepared. Bring water to drink on the way to the race & before the race.
  6. Take every opportunity to hydrate during the race. Do not rely on thirst to tell you when to drink. While biking, do not toss empty water bottles on the course. If you would like a second water bottle, you will need to add a second bottle-cage to your bike. Water bottles on the road are a safety hazard.
  7. If you get into trouble in the swim roll onto your back and raise an arm in the air. If you experience mechanical difficulties during the bike carefully pull over to the right so as not to endanger other athletes. Then pull your bike up to the shoulder and wait for a sag vehicle. Repairs should not be made on the course unless you are out of the bicycle lanes.
  8. Keep to the right at all times on the bike course unless in the immediate act of passing. Always pass on the Left and then move immediately back to the left lane once you are sure you have safely cleared the cyclist you were passing. Use your voice to call out to people that you are passing and look over your shoulder before making a passing move. NO WALKMAN’S, DISCMAN'S or IPODS ON THE BIKE OR RUN COURSE!!!
  9. After finishing be respectful of other athletes in the race. Please treat other athletes at least as well as you would like to be treated.
  10. Have fun, be organized and stay safe.
