Minocqua Wisconsin Announces New Triathlon. On Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 7:30 am, join hundreds of Triathletes at the edge of Lake Minocqua, a brand-new event for the Midwest as Minocqua hosts the Minocqua Triathlon. Offering sprint distance events, the swim, bike and run courses will challenge athletes among the woods & waters of the scenic Northwoods.
“Minocqua has been known for its great events for tourists and outdoor enthusiasts and now we have a great triathlon,” said Chamber Director Diane Hapka. "We welcome participants with our signature triathlon -- "See Me Tri" The Minocqua Triathlon. Our downtown waterfront location makes this event perfect for spectators, and provides great opportunities for volunteers who want to be part of a triathlon event.”
Race Director Andrew Teichmiller explains the course. "The triathlon will be staged at Torpy Park with all the transitions near the band shell, on the banks of Lake Minocqua. The swim will be an out & back. The bike course will close the south bound outer lane of Hwy 51 and continue through wooded back roads. The run will be on the historic & scenic Bearskin Trail.
The swim course will parallel Lake Minocqua. Volunteers in kayaks & pontoon boats will provide safety for athletes during the swim portion of the race.
After a 25 yard jog from Torpy Beach, triathletes start a rolling and challenging bike ride. Spectacular wooded ride with rolling terrain witha mix of technical turns & long straight a ways.
After finishing the bike course, athletes will don their jogging shoes and run 10k on crushed granite surface on the Bearskin Trail. A gala finish line welcomes athletes with a celebration, -- music, food and beverages – for athletes, friends, families and spectators.
